Module 4: Healthy Eating
Overview
Nutrition is crucial during pregnancy and it starts even before conception! This module tracks your pregnant Sim’s dietary choices and rewards healthy eating while simulating the risks of poor nutrition. What your Sim eats directly impacts both their pregnancy experience and their baby’s health.
Expanded Food Classification System
EA’s base game classification of healthy and unhealthy foods is quite limited. For this module, I have significantly redesigned and expanded the food classification system to include a much wider range of recipes and meals. This ensures more realistic and varied nutritional tracking throughout pregnancy. Recipes are classified into three categories: Healthy, Neutral, and Unhealthy.
Nutritional Tracking
- Your Sim’s nutritional intake is monitored throughout pregnancy
- Eating healthy meals provides cumulative benefits
- Unhealthy eating increases risks and negative side effects
Lifestyle Traits Impact:
- Junk Food Lifestyle: Makes it harder (but not impossible!) to increase nutritional intake
- Health Food Nut Lifestyle: Makes it easier to maintain good nutrition during pregnancy
Pregnancy Safe Cooking Menu
Pregnant Sims will have access to a special pie menu option on the refrigerator: “Cook Pregnancy Safe Foods.”
This is a convenient shortcut to ensure your pregnant Sim is eating well without needing to constantly reference the full food classification breakdown.
Benefits of Healthy Eating
When your Sim maintains good nutrition, they’ll experience:
- Reduced pregnancy side effects – fewer negative buffs and discomforts
- Better pregnancy experience – improved mood and well-being
- Increased chance of a healthy and happy newborn
- Pregnancy Glow (highest level): Unlock the coveted pregnancy glow!
- Other Sims will compliment your Sim’s radiant appearance
- Increased friendship gains from positive social interactions
Risks of Unhealthy Eating
Poor nutrition during pregnancy leads to:
- Increased negative pregnancy side effects and nausea
- Higher risk of pregnancy complications
- Increased risk of newborn complications
⚠️ Overeating
No cheating allowed ! Eating healthy foods when your Sim isn’t hungry won’t increase nutritional intake and counts as overeating, which may negatively affect their health. Only eat when hungry!
Getting Help: Your Sim can research “Healthy Eating Tips” on the computer to learn what foods are best during pregnancy.
Healthy Eating Protection Reward
If your pregnant Sim reaches the highest level in the healthy eating tracking system, they will earn Healthy Eating Protection – a special reward that provides significant benefits for the remainder of their pregnancy.
Benefits Granted:
- Normal childbirth experience
- Protection from hormonal pregnancy side-effects like crankiness (if using Lumpinou’s RPO)
- Protection from pregnancy complications
- Pregnancy glow that makes sims turn heads and broody
- Enhanced overall pregnancy wellbeing
Important Limitations:
This is NOT the same as full Pregnancy Protection (which requires perfection across all installed modules). Because your Sim has not achieved complete Pregnancy Protection, there is still a lower chance that some risks will still occur,
Adeepindigo HealthCare - Pregnancy Module Integration
If you have adeepindigo’s Healthcare Redux mod installed, this mdoule integrates seamlessly with its pregnancy complication systems:
- Gestational Diabetes: If your pregnant Sim is diagnosed with gestational diabetes, their eating choices will directly impact their blood sugar levels. Eating unhealthy foods will raise blood sugar, while healthy eating helps manage it. The mod tracks these choices and adjusts health outcomes accordingly.
Module Specific Guidance & Requirements
Base Game Compatible: YES – This module works fully with base game recipes.
Optional (Enhances Features):
- Adeepindigo’s Healthcare Redux mod – Pregnancy Module (for gestational diabetes integration where eating choices directly affect blood sugar levels)
- If Module 7 is installed, excessive unhealthy eating during pregnancy increases the statistical risk of complications when the baby is born
