Dietary Preferences Module

The Dietary Preferences module adds a food preference system that allows Sims to develop more individual tastes around what they eat and drink.

Food and Drink Preferences

There are over 40+ food and drink preferences to choose from which can be assigned in Create a Sim through the new food and drink preference categories added by the mod.

Players can choose whether they want to manually control their Sims preferences in CAS, allow preferences to develop naturally through gameplay, or use a mix of both.

Self Discovery

Food and drink preferences don’t have to be chosen manually in CAS! When Self Discovery is enabled in the My Dietary Life Settings Menu, your Sim can naturally develop new food and drink preferences through gameplay. After eating or drinking certain recipes, your Sim may get a prompt recommending a new preference pertaining to a food or drink. Their answer shapes their preferences going forward.

Self Discovery does not fire randomly. Several factors influence whether a preference prompt appears and which direction it leans.

Flavoured Memories Integration

Self Discovery includes a full integration with Frequently Basic’s Flavoured Memories mod. When this mod is installed, it directly influences whether your Sim develops a preference after a meal and how strong that response is.

Things that make a positive preference more likely:

  • The cook is a loved one, close family member, romantic partner, or good friend
  • The meal quality is high

Things that make a negative preference more likely:

  • The relationship with the cook is strained
  • The meal quality is poor

This makes Self Discovery feel personal rather than random. A meal cooked by someone your Sim loves lands differently than the same dish made by a stranger.

Favourite Food and Favourite Drink

On top of broader preferences, each Sim can have one Favourite Food and one Favourite Drink.

A Sim might like cakes in general, but their favourite food could be chocolate cake specifically. Another Sim might enjoy tea, but their favourite drink could be chamomile tea.

You can view your sim’s favourite food and drink via your sim’s dietary panel.

When your Sim eats their favourite food or drinks their favourite drink, they receive a special positive buff. Favourites also act as a source of comfort. If your Sim is in a bad mood, their favourite food or drink can help take the edge off.

You can update a Sim’s favourite food or drink at any time by clicking directly on a crafted food or drink object in the world.

Favourite Drinks

Sims can have two separate favourite drink types.

Favourite Type

What It Means

Favourite Bar Drink

The existing Sims 4 favourite bar drink system, carried over into the mod

Overall Favourite Drink

A broader favourite drink added by this mod that covers any drink type

These are kept separate because the Sims 4 favourite bar drink system only works with bar drinks. It does not cover milkshakes, teas, coffees, smoothies, or other drink types.

A Sim’s Overall Favourite Drink can still be a bar drink if you want both to match.

Cravings

The Cravings feature lets Sims build up urges for certain types of food and drink during gameplay. Cravings are not random. Each one is driven by a hidden craving tracker that builds and fades based on what your Sim is doing, how they are feeling, and what is happening around them.

One important thing to keep in mind: your Sim will only develop cravings for food and drink they actually like. If your Sim has no preference for a particular food category, they will not crave it. This makes cravings feel personal to each Sim rather than generic.

When a craving becomes active, your Sim will receive a buff or notification showing what type of food or drink they are after. Eat or drink something in that category to satisfy it.

Satisfying a craving resets the tracker and may give your Sim a positive mood effect. Ignoring a craving for too long can leave your Sim uncomfortable, tense, or sad depending on the category.

Craving Category

What Can Influence This Craving

Meat and Savoury Protein

  • Sims who have been physically active or just finished a workout are more likely to crave something substantial and protein-heavy
  • Traits like Active, Glutton, and High Metabolism make this craving more common
  • Werewolf Sims have a stronger pull toward meat-based food as part of their occult nature

Fresh and Healthy

  • Sims who are feeling run down, unwell, or like their body needs a reset are more likely to crave something light and nourishing
  • Physical activity can also trigger this craving as the body looks for something clean and energising afterward
  • Traits like Active, Neat, Health Food Nut, and Vegetarian make Sims more naturally drawn to fresh and healthy options
  •

Sweet Treats

  • Sims who are sad, bored, or stressed are more likely to reach for something sweet as a source of comfort
  • Going through a divorce or a breakup can also push this craving higher
  • A low Fun motive or low Energy motive can make sweet food feel more appealing than usual
  • Wicked Whims Integration – Sims who are on their period may also experience this craving more strongly
  • Traits like Childish and Glutton make this craving more frequent overall

Comfort Carbs

  • Sims dealing with sadness, anger, stress, loneliness, or burnout are more likely to crave something warm and filling
  • A stressful school day, a recent divorce or breakup, or a low Social motive can all push this craving higher
  • Rainy weather makes comfort carbs feel more appealing and increases the chance of this craving appearing
  • Sims who are on their period may crave comfort food more strongly (requires Wicked Whims)
  • Traits like Lazy and Glutton make this craving come up more often

Adventurous

  • Sims who are at a festival are surrounded by new food experiences and are more likely to crave something unusual or exciting
  • A high Gourmet Cooking skill means your Sim has developed a more refined palate and may find everyday food boring
  • A low Fun motive can also trigger this craving as the Sim looks for something more stimulating
  • Traits like Foodie, Adventurous, Self Assured, Thrill Seeker, and Snob all make this craving more likely

Caffeine and Warm Drinks

  • Tired Sims are more likely to crave something warm and stimulating to help them push through
  • Cold weather makes hot drinks feel more necessary and increases the chance of this craving appearing
  • Sims who are experiencing sickness symptoms may also lean toward warm drinks as a source of comfort
  • Being on a library, cafe, or university lot naturally puts warm drinks on the Sim’s mind

Refreshing Drinks

  • Eating something spicy can leave a Sim craving something cold and refreshing to balance it out
  • Dehydrated Sims will naturally gravitate toward something that helps restore their fluid levels
  • Physical activity increases the body’s need for hydration and makes this craving more likely
  • Warm, hot, or summer weather makes refreshing drinks feel like a necessity rather than a choice
  •

Alcohol

  • Sims who are feeling flirty or stressed may be drawn toward a drink as a way to relax or lean into the mood
  • Being at a bar, lounge, or club makes alcohol the obvious choice and increases the chance of this craving activating
  • Traits like Party Animal, Nectar Know-It-All, Likes Nectar Making, and Snob all make this craving come up more naturally

Pregnancy Cravings

Pregnant Sims experience cravings more frequently. The system works the same way but fires more often during pregnancy.

Pregnancy cravings can be turned off separately in the settings menu if you want cravings for regular gameplay without them applying during pregnancy.

80+ Social Interactions

The Dietary Preferences module adds around 80+ food-focused social interactions that let Sims connect over what they eat and drink. Sims can ask about each other’s favourite foods and drinks, share preferences, and bond over shared tastes. Finding out another Sim shares your favourite food is a small thing, but it lands.

Settings Menu

The My Dietary Life Settings Menu is where you manage how the Dietary Preferences module runs in your game.

To access it, click on your Sim and look for the My Dietary Life option in the pie menu.
